1. What is the Web of Trust?
In Nostr, there is no central authority. Instead, we use a Social Graph. When you "follow" someone, you are essentially saying "I trust this person's content." The Web of Trust (WoT) is the sum of all these trust signals across the network.
2. How "Hops" Work
The "Depth" or "Hops" determines how far out we look for trust:
- 1 Hop: People you follow. Direct trust.
- 2 Hops: People your friends follow. "Friends of Friends."
- 3 Hops: The extended network. Highly accurate for filtering spam!
3. Why it matters
If a new user follows 1,000 bots, they aren't part of the "real" network. But if they are followed by 10 people you already trust, they are likely a real person. We use these stats to calculate reputation without needing a "Blue Checkmark."
Key Metrics:
Trusted By: How many people in your circle follow this user. (Reputation)
Trusts: How many people this user follows. (Engagement)
